My mother said, "That Joan, she's always into something."
Creativity has long been at my core - it led me to the Art Department at Penn State, where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking. After a short stint back at home with the folks in Trucksville, Pa. ( you read that correctly ), I made my way to New York City, where I learned the finer points of the service industry as a waitress at the Plaza Hotel. I continued to paint at the Art Students League and, as if I didn't have enough on my plate, I picked up the banjo and was lucky enough to study with one of the world's most influential banjo players and teachers,Tony Trischka.
Seduced by the lure of home ownership, I packed up my paints, banjo, a small pack of dogs and cats and relocated to Stanfordville, NY with my husband Brian. The Hudson Valley provided inspiration for my painting and my music found a home in Too Blue, a fabulously fun bluegrass/swing quartet.
My passion for photography began as a means for documenting my artwork, but has become the best possible vehicle for conveying my many interests. From man's best friend to the magic of music, I challenge myself to capture powerful emotional moments while continually honing my technical skills. I am available for portrait, concert and event photography.
